|09:59 am - New MP3 and Superbowl apathy|
I'm surprisingly awake this morning, contrary to what I'm telling my coworkers. It just makes for better, shorter conversation -- "How are you?" "I'm doin' alright. Yourself?" "Not too bad, but I'll be better after I finish this coffee."
This month's MP3 is posted. It's actually a combination of two separate pieces called k8.0 and k8.3 which would probably not have been finished otherwise. k8.0 is something I started almost a year ago while I was on vacation. I had just gotten down some basic ideas which needed fleshing out, and when I got home... I'd lost interest in them. k8.3 had a similar problem; I started it at work, got busy and e-mailed it to myself to work on at home. Once I got home, I discovered that it sounds really bad on all of the fantastic, expensive instrument sets I have, and only really works on the wavetable emulator I use at work. The problem, of course, is that the emulator has a lot of feedback on some of the samples, and while they all sound fine together, some of the samples just aren't very good. I made the recording with this emulator and filtered as much of the background hiss as I could.
Both k8.0 and k8.3 are in what was intended to be a temporary state -- get the basic idea into the computer, and improve it later, so they're both pretty rough -- no tempo or dynamic changes, etc., which they would probably have if I'd actually kept working on them. Maybe if I get ambitious, I will tackle k8.3 in the future, but I've resolved to do that so many times, and it hasn't really changed since the day I started it at work.
Anyway... So far nobody has asked me about the Superbowl yet, but I know it's going to happen. I actually watched (most of) the game last night though, so I can at least fake my way through a sports conversation if I have to. I hadn't had plans for last night, but my roommates were heading over to Mikey's pimp-ass apartment. I haven't hung out with Mikey recently, so I decided to go. I got to talk to his parents whom I hadn't seen in some time. Oh, and I guess the game was on, but everybody watching it -- all of them football fans -- was more interested in the commercials. Some of them were really good; we all agreed that we'd never seen an entertaining Subway commercial before. Some of them were for Menards. And some of them... Some of them featured frozen treats made out of glass.
I gotta get back to work now. I have a somewhat shortened day because I have a dental appointment. I love that. They schedule me six months in advance, and I promptly forget until they call to remind me the day before. This time though, I got two days warning (plus the weekend), so I'm a bit more prepared (meaning that I asked on Friday for time off, rather than this morning). Anyway, I'm gonna go. Here are the most pointless results I've ever received in an online quiz:

Oh, everybody in the room loved
that commercial -- even the smokers (who outnumbered the rest of us). Did you check out the Shards O' Glass website?
Still. A Wang Chung reunion? Now that's comedy gold. Or perhaps not.
Incidentally -- White Pepper is pretty friggin' cool.
Yeah, I checked out the website. Nifty thing. Amusing for the amount of time I looked at it (5 minutes).
I haven't had the chance to actually "listen" to Pure Guava yet. what with not actually being at my place for most of yesterday and today. I'll probably stick it in tonight or tomorrow and decide that I like it.
