Throw me the idol, Guybrush! I'll throw you the rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle!

Well, it's Monday.

As a matter of fact, it's the worst type of Monday. I'd made plans to hang out with Tom tonight after work, but I've had to cancel them because it's snowing like a motherfather out there. Last year when I lived in Madison he considered poor weather a bad excuse for breaking off a social engagement. With more than thirty miles of Interstate between us, he's conceded that snow is a good reason to postpone. I've cancelled (or possibly rescheduled) my Thursday plans in favor of hanging out with Tom. It's all good.

Holy mother of God in a sidecar with chocolate jimmies and a lobster bib, are they playing The Backstreet Boys over the Muzak system? They are. Engage headphones.

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, lousy weather. I'm not gonna be in the mood to do anything on a night like this. Oh, I was saying that this is the worst type of Monday? The reason is that on a night like this, I'd like to go home, order a pizza, and watch The Beast of Yucca Flats. Problem is, I did both of those things this last weekend -- pizza on Friday with Ellen, and the movie last night. I feel weird ordering pizza twice within a week (I don't know why either, I just do), and the movie... is something I can only sit through once in a great while. So now what the hell do I do?

It probably sounds like I'm blowing this out of proportion and turning it into a moral dilemma. I'm not. In fact, I've already got my evening planned. Dinner can be anything. I have ingredients to cook with, and failing that, I have stuff that can go straight from box to microwave to mouth with minimal effort. As for the rest of the evening, it's been a good four years since I've invested more than an hour into a computer game in a single sitting, and I've just discovered ScummVM, a program that allows you to run older SCUMM-based Lucasarts games in Windows. I think I'm going to take a stroll down memory lane this evening and finally beat either Maniac Mansion or Zak McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Yeah, I know it's about seventeen years too late to brag about beating Maniac Mansion, but I've just never bothered to do it, and I can't find my copy of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I think it's somewhere at my parents' house.

Or maybe I'll get bored with Maniac Mansion and put together a primer on running older games on newer systems. No, seriously, putting together a list of utilities and the basics of their use would save me... well, it would save me a couple of hours of explanation a year. I don't care. I think it's a good idea.
