|11:00 am - [lots and lots of profanity]|
Right. So I came out of the house this morning, walked to my car, and found that somebody had backed into it hard enough to crack the front bumper.
How do you do that?

Crummy beginning to a day. Hope it gets better!
That's... a good question.
Eximane your neighbor's cars later. You may be able to match damage and/or traded paint to the one that struck yours. I hope the damage isn't too serious.
(good idea -- it's bound to be someone who regularly parks there)
I plan to do that, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for finding the culprit. Most of the vehicles that park in front of our house at night belong to visitors to the apartments across the street, rather than people who actually live in the area.
Perhaps a new neighborhood is in order?
I dunno. Generally this has been a more pleasant and somewhat quieter neighborhood than the two downtown neighborhoods I've lived in, and certainly less dangerous to my car, but things like this do not endear me to my neighbors.
