11:59 pm - We are confirmed for B-Fest!
As some of you may recall, last January I attended a B-movie festival called B-Fest with evil_jim, matt_william, and a couple of people who don't have livejournals (imagine that). It was a good time (excrutiating, but good), and we'd been planning to go again this year. Tickets sold out quickly last year, so we had people calling as soon as the box office opened. Sadly, all the available spots filled up before we could even get through.

We reserved a spot on the waiting list, and set about planning our own mini-B-Fest. I was going to bring a stack of Ed Wood movies, Vincent Price's Dr. Phibes philms, and numerous "gems" such as Waxwork II, Death Race 2000, Forbidden Zone, and Shock Treatment.

Now I hafta* put 'em all back because our tickets have come through. On Friday morning I'll be heading down to Northwestern University for twenty four hours of  wine, women and song and women  movies -- some maligned, some forgotten, all of questionable quality.

Red denotes movies I've seen and to which I had a negative reaction.
Purple denotes movies I've never seen and was hoping to stay away from.
Blue denotes movies I've seen and actually like.
Green denotes the happiest movie ever. Would otherwise be blue.
Coffy is the color.

6:00 p.m. Introduction
6:05 p.m. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
7:40 p.m. Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D
9:05 p.m. Godzilla (1998) -- Not an evil movie, just crappy.
11:25 p.m. Raffle for Door Prizes
11:45 p.m. The Wizard of Speed and Time
midnight Plan 9 From Outer Space
1:20 a.m. Coffy
3:00 a.m. Mystery Short
3:15 a.m. Gas-s-s-s!
4:40 a.m. Tromeo & Juliet -- My favorite Troma movie.
6:35 a.m. Mystery Short
6:55 a.m. Graffiti Bridge
8:35 a.m. Earth Girls are Easy -- I actually just bought this one...
10:15 a.m. Breakfast Break
10:45 a.m. Rhinestone
12:45 p.m. Cobra Woman
2:00 p.m. Mystery Short
2:20 p.m. Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2
3:55 p.m. King Kong (1933)

This is gonna be fantastic. I should get a little extra sleep over the next couple of days so I make it through the whole festival.

I'm so excited.

* This is such a real word that it's not even funny.

...well, actually the legend above should read "the happiest short film ever." The Wizard of Speed and Time was originally produced as a live-action, stop-motion short, and that’s what we’re watching. The feature film was made some years later, and is a heavily-fictionalized account of the making of the short.

Though this impacts you not, I am totally going next year and will probably drag Liz along. I might even get my Northwestern grad friend (who now is doing his residency in Milwaukee but lives in Chicago) to come along, though bad movies aren't generally his thing.

In that case I'll just update you on the administrative details of this year's B-Fest: Tickets cost $35 -- $15 more than last year. They jacked the price because they sold out so quickly last year. As I said, we tried to buy tickets as soon as they were available this time, and we still wound up on a waiting list. If they raise the price again next year, I may not go. We'll see. Otherwise though, B-Fest is a blast.

I would have liked to go this year, had I known about it and were working and not recovering from back surgery. I don't want to test my back like that right now, even though I'd be free to move around when I needed.
