I guess I can cross "Tractor-trailer executing a successful U-turn in a residential neighborhood" off the list of things I haven't seen.

Well, first I have to add it, but after that I can cross it off.

I'm trying to visualize a semi making a U-turn on a residential street, and I can only think: that's one wide street.

That or he took a couple dozen passes inching around.

It was a combination of utilizing a driveway (not an empty (or inordinately long) driveway, mind you) and yes, taking a couple of dozen passes inching around. It's not a wide street -- you still have to drive cautiously when there are vehicles parked on both sides and you're passing a car coming from the opposite direction. It took him awhile.

I've seen your street, and... wow.

What the hell was he doing there, anyway?

I don't know. I want to suspect that he was trying to make a delivery to Wal-Mart or Cub Foods, didn't know the area very well, and was trying to make up for a wrong turn. That's probably not the case though because though you might conceivably take a wrong turn, it's a small neighborhood. Drive long enough in the same direction -- not long at all -- and you'll hit a major road.

With the proximity of those two stores, it's not so surprising to see semis in the area. What was weird was seeing them in my neighborhood downtown last year. Eventually they erected signs all over Gorham and (especially) the smaller streets in the area proclaiming that commercial traffic is unwelcome.
