Wedding day

Talkin' To Folks 101

Killing time before offBeat's performance. I was at a class all day, and I just got back to work. I have stuff that I should actually do (and I'm doing it), but my coworkers didn't expect me in so most of my most pressing responsibilities are taken care of. When I walked in at ten to four, I stopped by my boss' desk and said, "Karen, I slept in. I'm so sorry, I got here as fast as I could."

My old boss was sitting there talking to her, and thought I was serious.

Anyway, the class is called Thinking On Your Feet, and it's teaching us tactics for quickly compiling concise and informative verbal responses. matchstyx is in there with me. I don't know what he's getting out of it, but I'm finding it extremely helpful. When I'm giving a prepared speech, I tend to inadvertently encumber it with wearisome, circumlocutious and pretentious vocabulary. This has always had the effect of getting me good grades by default in verbal communications classes, but I think I may have missed everything important beyond "tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you've told them."
