Wedding day

I never wore the "Princess" hat for a whole day. It was two hours. Maybe.

I smell like smoke.

I just got back from the 2004 Metavante Madison Employee Appreciation Party. I hate these things -- business casual attire (read: "more formal that I'm expecting"), bring a date, door prize drawing, blah blah blah blah blah... I go for the meal, and because of the off chance I'll get recognized for something. I've never brought a date -- the first year because my girlfriend was also working for the company, the second year because I was single, and this year because I actually like Ellen, and I don't want to subject her to my coworkers (actually I'm afraid of the conversations she'll be dragged into: "Does Colin still have that three-foot-tall 'Princess' hat? We got him to wear that for a whole day once.").

This year, things were a little different. For the first time, I wasn't underdressed. Offsetting that small accomplishment is the fact that there wasn't a meal, just hors d'oeuvres. Last year I got recognized for my contributions to the United Way campaign. This year... nothing (which actually counts toward my enjoyment of the evening, not against it). Oh, and I actually won something in the prize drawing.

Actually, I won one of the nicer items. In fact, now that I think about the other prizes, yeah, it was the nicest item. It's a $100 gift certificate for Ho-Chunk, and (this is the cool part) a one night "Love Package" stay at the Raintree Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Geez, now that I stop to think, this is pretty damn cool.

Anyway, I'm gonna leave now. Ellen's coming over and we're going to Rocky. While I'm thinking about it though, Ribs is right: Every good American should keep a vacuum cleaner in the basement. How would Laverne get back to the present otherwise?
