I don't know what he's getting out of it, but I'm finding it extremely helpful. When I'm giving a prepared speech, I tend to inadvertently encumber it with wearisome, circumlocutious and pretentious vocabulary. This has always had the effect of getting me good grades by default in verbal communications classes, but I think I may have missed everything important beyond "tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you've told them."
