You've got curb!

So now that they're roughly two months behind schedule, there's finally been some observable, constructive progress on our street. For those who aren't xoshua, ribsinbacon or my friend Jim, it might be best to backtrack.

See, back in May we were notified that our street would be torn up in mid-June so that the city could do some sewer work. It was supposed to last until mid-September, so you can well imagine our surprise when they extended the parking disruption until mid-Novemeber.

I live on Washburn Place. It's a tiny little street that comes off of Gorham, and as anyone who's ever lived in this area of Madison knows, parking here is horrendous. With the street closures, it's exponentially worse -- if you don't park between about 4:45 and 5:15 PM, you generally park a minimum of two blocks away (if you want to be legal).

This evening however, I came home from work to find newly poured curb lining the street. No sidewalk or asphalt yet, but we do have a curb, and that's a start.

Also in the news, I didn't take a lunchbreak today, so my boss said I could leave early. I've always found her to be more flexible than is really reasonable about that stuff. Today my plan was to stop by Borders and pick up a book, then do some grocery shopping. To my dismay, however, the book was far too expensive. It was affordable, but even taking shipping into account, I can get it $10 cheaper online.

On my way out I noticed my sister's car in the parking lot, so I went inside and found her in the cafe. We sat and talked for some time and (depressingly) I'm apparently "getting more" than she is. I'm going to have to give her boyfriend a hard time about this, which I'm comfortable doing because he's a good friend who I've known longer than she has. In fact, he did all the sound engineering for the Quazarin album, Cow Hunting (which I provided crappy vocals on), and thinking of him reminded me of the album, which I'm listening to at this very moment. Ah, for those halcyon days....

Um, anyway, I didn't make it to the grocery store. I got out of Borders at about 5:10, just as register lines would've been hitting the two-mile mark. Turns out skipping the store was a good idea -- I would have missed an important phone call otherwise. Suddenly though, I'm craving blueberries so I think I'm gonna make a quick run to Woodmans.
