04:55 pm - On a scale of one to stupid:
Today we had a fax come through only partially. We're a client of the company that sent the fax, and I called to have them send it again. It turns out they had a paper jam. One of the first things they asked me for was our account number. Why? So they could bill us for the call. Their fax machine jammed. They would have sent the fax again for free if I'd waited long enough.

I also had to deal with one of our merchants who is losing a several thousand dollar dispute because their sales drafts don't contain all the information required by Visa. Guess why the info is missing? Because we sent out a software upgrade when Visa set up the most recent regulations pertaining to sales drafts, and this merchant refused to install it.

Then I got to read a letter that ends with this sentence: "P.S. -- After the way I was treated, it should come as no surprise that the hotel manager is a cross-dresser." The cardholder had first tried to write "transvestite," but she couldn't spell it and crossed it out.

I'm ready for this day to be over. And I'm thrilled that we're not staffing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day which, incidentally, is not on my calendar.

My calendar -- the computer one I so wanted -- has Id-al-Adha (January 21st), Anzac Day (April 25th), and Rememberance Day (November 11th), but most American holidays are missing.

It's an Australian calendar.

I still love it.
