02:13 pm - Dubious sandwiches, No Brand Con, and Science Fiction Double Feature, Episode 7
For the first time in years, I am eating from the Wheel of Death.

That's what spidermoon77 calls the rotating sandwich vending machine downstairs. The sandwich I've gotten looked like the best value for my $2.00, but it's pretty freakin' awful. It's still probably the best value for my $2.00.

Well, let's see... I've been planning to post for days, but there just hasn't been a time when I've been in front of a computer with enough free time and ambition to write something. I used to do it during my workdays, writing 500-word posts piecemeal over the eight hours, but staffing cutbacks and ever-increasing workload have made that impossible. That's not a bad thing, though. They don't pay me to screw around.

Anyway, I spent the last weekend in Eau Claire with crabmoon, laviorli, seanorange, phil_bond, lord_alucard, theenigma42, and koriandrkitten at No Brand Con. It's a little intimidating to be somewhere where everybody wants your girlfriend, but I suppose I can take some solace in the fact that (unlike most of the other attendees) I am A) not living with my parents, and B) concerned about hygiene.

I had a good time, though. Anime was more or less ruined for me years ago by some of my friends, but I don't find it intrinsically pointless, and I found stuff to do. As it turns out, I get along pretty well with voice actors. Lindsay and I did a karaoke rendition of Dammit Janet, complete with callbacks, which got us more applause than anybody else received. I blame the callbacks. I also did a little dancing on Saturday night, which tired me out and resulted on Sunday in a very sore left foot. I'm not sure what, exactly, I did to my foot, but it's still working on feeling better.

Wow, this sandwich really isn't very good. They'd charge more for it at Subway, but it would also have vegetables on it. That really is what's missing.

I haven't mentioned it on my livejournal, but it's been the better part of a month since I put up the last episode of Science Fiction Double Feature. In this episode, I talk about April Fool's Day and Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, both of which were much more timely when the episode was posted. Eh, whatever. Download the MP3 or stream it from Odeo.com, or add the RSS feed to your livejournal Friends page by clicking here. Stay tuned for the soon-arriving next episode where I talk about the original version The Wicker Man and... something else. I haven't decided whether it's going to be the remake of The Wicker Man, or if it's going to be Horror Hotel, but I'm leaning toward the latter because A) I own a copy, and B) it's a better movie.

Also coming up within the next week or so will be Fungi from Yuggoth. Some of you know exactly what that is, and some of you don't. Not sure how I'll distribute it yet. It may possibly replace the streaming Smiths songs on my MySpace profile. We'll see.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes, I got your message, and before I forget, it's not in the meil yet (maybe later today or tomorrow), but I'll be sending off your Buddha machine for repair or replacement.

Regarding Fungi from Yuggoth: it's an interesting coincidence, but a few days before you left that message I started working on the project again, and am pleased to say that as of this morning, the audio portion is finished. I'm using different hardware and software than I was when I put the original version together in 2001, so I've updated the recording with more realistic instrument samples, and added a reading of the sonnets. Some of the original pieces were really short, so they got lengthened a bit. I think you're going to like this, but I have more work to do before I submit it to ToM. I'm not totally sure what that's going to entail yet -- I might finally tackle my original ideas for the artwork, which I remember having described to you.

Eewww. You know what? Yours sounds better than mine.

Oh, by the way, not to stroke your ego too much, but the duct tape looked GREAT, and Lindz got a lot of compliments. Good idea.

I call it the "wheel of death" for a reason :) not a good one, but hey :) it is easier to say than "wheel of things that should have never existed and really should be left in the bottoms of the vats of radioactive sewage that creates them even if they look almost edible" :)
