05:12 pm - Current Music: Jonathan Coulton -- Re: Your Kidneys
Can anything be more redundant than a smoother, easy-listeninger, Muzak version of The Fool on the Hill by the Beatles?

This is ridiculous.

Anyway, I'm somewhat sorry that I haven't been posting regularly. Mostly what you've been missing is me complaining about pain and discomfort. Whatever I'm experiencing is (according to the doctor I saw this morning) "kidney related, probably not serious." I won't bore you with details, except to say that I'm fine. I'm somewhat sluggish, since it hurts to move, but all in all I'm okay, and the doctor has led me to believe that it's nothing to lose sleep over, since I'm managing to climb stairs and go about my normal routines. We'll see. I'll be spending a few of my next week's lunchbreaks in the clinic giving urine samples, but the worst likely scenario is small kidney stones.

In happier news, offBeat Acappella is one of eight finalists in the Chicago leg of the Harmony Sweepstakes, which is sort of the American Idol of acappella competitions. This is kind of sort of a really really big deal, and it's taking all of my strongest resolve not to bite my nails and wet my pants in anticipation. We had to take some photos for this last week. It's been such a long time since I've been involved in a group photo sitting that I'd forgotten how difficult it is to get pictures that don't suck. Anyway, if anybody actually wants to make the drive down to Chicago on March 24th to see our ten-minute segment of the show, I'm sure I'll have more information closer to that date.

In the meantime, I'm just gonna feel generally good about things.

At least you understand. Whenever I make a post like this, I get mounds of undue sympathy. Yes, kidney stones suck. Yes, they can be temporarily debilitating. But whatever I have isn't so bad, just uncomfortable. Yesterday afternoon I went home from work because I could barely move. Today I've been feeling pretty okay. Here's hoping that this either, uh, passes on its own, or they can help me correct it.

Chicago eh?... man if I can get someone to drive me (I'd pay for gas,) and perhaps get some sights in while there... I'd totally go, and then look like a raving idiot cheering you on.

Can I play psycho stage mother #4?

BTW-- Happy Birthday.

You should be able to find the information you need here. It's at 7:30 PM on March 24th. Tickets are $19.50, and they expect to be sold out by the day of the show. offBeat literally gets only 10 minutes (plus, I believe, another short set at the end if we win), but if you're interested, we'd love to have somebody in the audience cheering for us.

I believe our friend Josh passed a couple stones (months apart) when he was your age. I've heard they're not very fun. But if that's the worst of the worries than it's not too bad.

I like your bio by the way. How is little Sleletor not doing?

I'm still a little surprised (but thrilled) that I got away with that bio. I expected to be told to tone it down.

Yeah, kidney stones are not fun, but it's not interrupting my daily routine too much. I expect to be over this soon, and I appreciate the well wishes.

March 24? CRAP! I'm going to be in Chicago for a Fark party that weekend. If I'm sober, I might try and stop by.

All right, in that case, I'm just gonna copy and paste the comment I just left for somebody else:

I hope you feel better soon. Oh, and if you pass one at work, be sure to scream really loud so they give you an extra day or two off.

If you feel like coming over and being a lump on our couch, call and we'll make a spot for you.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm mostly spending my free time alone this week. I mentioned last week that my body had been fighting off some kind of influenza, and I thought I'd won, but the last couple of days I've been experiencing more of the same symptoms, and I just want to lay down and rest. It can't help that the duck is cutting into my sleep schedule, but I'm really enjoying that duck, you know?

Hope you're feeling better Colin. Take it easy with the kidneys, we need you at your all-time bass-iness in March. For the record, I think the pictures came out pretty good. I put two of them on the website.

I think at the very least that I'll be fine to come to practice tonight. Actually, I was pretty happy with the pictures too, it's just that I'd forgotten how hard it is to pose for a group photo. How is it that so many high school yearbook photos come out so well?
