11:51 pm - I'm one step closer to becoming a teenage camwhore
I finally broke down and got a MySpace account.

Actually, I broke down and got the account about a month ago. What I've finally done is started to set it up. So add me, you bums:

Why do so many of us have these things, and yet almost none of us apparently use them?

Dude! Dudedudedudedudedude!

DUDE.

I imagine that you haven't been listening to the TMBG podcast simply because nobody ever listens to me, but you should check out Episode 6A, which just came out yesterday. I'm not crazy about most of the material in this episode (which is ususual -- they're usually great), but the first song -- a new one called We Live in a Dump -- is really doing it for me this morning.

Also check out episodes 4A, 5A and 5B. They're the ones still up on the server. Lotsa good stuff there.

Hot! I find I identify with the last song (the one before the E Eats Everything remix), even though it's totally not true... The airplane one is kind of fun, too. And I guess they're all covers, save We Live in a Dump (I think).

Any idea what the difference is between the A and B releases? Like, are they from the same week or something?

And -- DAMMIT Colin... Thanks to this MySpace thing, I just friended a buch of people. I also found Nici (Nikki? Nickey? Help me out here -- I never knew how she spelled it) Johnson, who not only is in the Chicago area, but apparently just started working at the same company as me -- although probably the downtown office since I haven't seen here around here.

Small world.

Regarding the podcast: E Eats Everything is a remix of a song from Here Come the ABCs. I Never Go To Work isn't a cover, either. The other two are, though, and as I said, they don't do much for me (yet).

A and B releases: There's been a lot of discussion about this. My idea -- which I'm pretty sure is correct -- is that the letters differentiate between podcasts released in the same month. March has been the only month so far to have more than one podcast, and they were labelled 5A and 5B.

Regarding Niki: One K. I'm somewhat annoyed about MySpace's handling of artist accounts. Apparently, you have to set yourself up as an band to host MP3s there, but bands don't get regular bio information, and most users seem to have turned on the option that blocks friend solicitations from bands. They can add me but I can't add them, which is why I'm friendwhoring in my LJ.

So what are you waiting for? Add me already! :p

Hmmm... it seems like you don't show up on my list. Could it be because you have that band account? It says I have 8 friends, but it only ever shows seven. Very strange.

"Niki". Right. I knew that.

Niki, Jenicka (sp?) Johnson from my grade or someone else? If it's her she was in my brownie troop.

Ribs is having the same issue, but he has other bands listed as friends and they're showing up okay. MySpace's help files suggest waiting 24 hours on the grounds that friend additions will show up sooner or later.

Have I mentioned that MySpace seems poorly implemented and buggy? I think I might have.

So far I agree with every statement you've made to this effect. Somehow I doubt that will change in the future (either its bugginess or my agreeing).

But how can the site operate at its current popularity without implementing some fixes? You'd think that 13-year-olds who lie about their age to use blogging services would have higher standards of quality. You'd be mistaken, but you might think it. Maybe.

Not to lump you in with someone as unhip as me, but we were unusual 13-year-olds.

And now we're twice as old as that.

Wow, that went to kind of a weird place.

A lot of people seem to be, but I like LJ better because I've been using it longer.

Hey, incidentally, I don't know if other people have the same problems, but Ribs and I seem to have to enter our passwords frequently on MySpace. Is this normal?

MySpace tends to piss me off in general. However it seems to have become a necessary evil.

Agreed. MySpace appears to be a malignant, ubiquitous force which -- under other circumstances -- should be avoided. Unlike Wal-Mart, however, MySpace serves no purpose which isn't better served by, say, livejournal. Or BlogSpot. Or anybody else.

I actually like all the groups and the ways to meet people of like mind better with myspace. No other service has it working quite as smooth in those respects at least for what I use it for. I also like the way people pimp there pages out more on myspace and make it there own. It's more like your own website.

I won't disagree with you on these things. MySpace is totally about social networking, moreso than it is about blogging. And while there are some incredibly pimped-out livejournals out there, MySpace makes it much easier. Pimping out your LJ requires a paid account and the patience to learn how to do it.

I think LJ is much more carefully designed, though. If you're into MySpace and comfortable with it, that really doesn't matter.

Yeah, you see my pathetic little attempt of mine to extend an olive branch in the last couple of sentences? That's me trying not to get into a fight over something that's no more important than Pepsi vs. Coke.
