11:32 pm - I've been dragging my feet across my back...
...and I've been rubbing my head against my neck. And I've been walking my fingers through my mind, and I've been feeling this feeling in my spine, and yes, I believe I'll be leaving it behind when I don't need my spine.
Current Mood: stressedNot cryptic enough.
Current Music: Guess.

Actually these are the (slightly edited) lyrics to a song called Spine by They Might Be Giants. My MP3 player shuffled to it last night on my way home, and I was struck by how much I like the song. Of course, I despise the practice of pasting song lyrics into your livejournal (popular among some of my friends), so I've made myself feel a little better about it by removing the line breaks.

It's a 33-second song, so you can listen to most of it via Amazon's 30-second preview.

I'm not sure why I like it so much either.

They are TMBG lyric. You get a gold star!

The play was really good, and I think most of my friends would appreciate it. Knowing me, I'll probably post some kind of review. I'll be going at least once more, and I think you'd enjoy it.

Rachael and I didn't like that album too much at first. Actually, I was the only one who grew to like it. There's a "companion" album or somesuch nonsense of "cut" tracks I want to get my hands on, because it purportedly consists of songs that are more in line with the some older TMBG style that certain entrenched fans absolutely require of new albums. I got the "single" much before I nabbed the full album, so that's not the disc I'm talking about. I think you can only get it on their website, or something.

That's right -- it's called The Spine Surfs Alone and it's a $4.99 download at TheyMightBeGiants.com. It's only seven songs and clocks in at 11:40, but the best songs on it are outstanding.

I dunno. The Spine has taken a lot of flack from TMBG fans, but it's easily one of my favorite albums of the last few years. I don't really understand the criticisms of my fellow TMBG-fans, except maybe that the musical styles have become closer to mainstream thanks to the input of the rest of the band. On the other hand, everybody else apparently really liked Mink Car which sounds inconsistent to me, as if it had too many different producers.
