03:35 pm - "Perhaps they went underground." "Why undergound?" "Because everything's heavy there."
Today is flying by, more or less. Sometimes that's a good thing. Not in this particular case. My workload right now is pretty overwhelming (so why am I posting in my livejournal?) and although I'm probably more caught up than anybody else in my department (don't tell me boss), I still want to get everything that's currently on my desk dealt with before the day is out. This will not be fun or easy.

I can't wait for work to be over, though. I just want to get done and go home. I don't have plans for the evening, so if anybody's free and wants to do somethin', give me a call. If not, well, I'll find something to do on my own, I suppose. Last Friday I was in a terrible mood, asked for something to do, got offers, and turned them down in favor of moping around the house and going to bed early (which I needed). This week I'm feeling much better. I'd like to do something social. If I don't hear from anybody I'll probably make the calls myself, but this is a pre-emptive invitation to extend an invitation.

In the Really Old News category, sometime around February of 2000, Us started recording The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It was a hybrid version assembled from the best bits of the original radio series and the books with the ultimate goal of having a CD-quality audio version of the story (since the BBC series was not ((at the time) legally) available on this side of the Atlantic). Scheduling people to get together to record was a nightmare though, and we only managed to record six episodes (the first series, or through the end of the second book for those who are keeping score). Social tensions in the group eventually stopped the editing process after the fourth episode and prevented the possibility of ever finishing the series without recasting major roles.

So why do I bring all this up now? Because all the buzz over the upcoming HHG movie reminded me of our recordings. I've been listening to them all day, and they sound really good. I'd forgotten just how much I enjoyed doing that stuff -- especially the sound editing. Of course, the big issue with something like HHG is that while the production was ours, the material wasn't.

This got me thinking about Captain Spleen and how I'd wanted to develop that into an audio drama, since the story was too linear and too centered around dialogue to work as a computer game (which is why the games sucked, thank you very much). Now I want to go home and see if I can find the scripts I'd written for Captain Spleen... Aww man, add Captain Spleen: The Audio Drama to the list of projects I'll never finish (along with Rhubarb Bunnywing, The Adventures of Fireman... With A Gun, SPP, ManWhore...)...

Book of Ratings
I'll admit it. Sometimes I need other people to tell me what to think. I mean, sure, I know who I think would make a good presidential candidate (the late Ernest P. Worell) and what I'd like on my pizza (Julianne Moore), but sometimes I'm faced with too many choices to make a decision. I can use the customer reviews on Amazon to tell me which PDA to buy (yellow legal pad w/black rollerball pen "stylus"), but without Book of Ratings, I would never have known that Elvis's death was his best feature. Colin's response
In retrospect, that reply was fairly obvious. C+
