|04:56 pm - How to prove that you really love me:|
I know my birthday is almost six months away, but in case anybody was hoping to get me something really expensive, Necronomicon Press is selling all sorts of one-of-a-kind H.P. Lovecraft items. Those of us who are me were quite thrilled to see that the Old Gentleman of Providence did, in fact, posess some level of artistic ability, as evidenced by this gracefully simple painting, a nice departure from his usual pen-scratch drawings, such as this self-portrait. The painting is a steal at the paltry sum of $49,500.
Incidentally, this portrait is often erroneously referred to as one of HPL's self-portraits, but (as is clearly stated in every book I've seen it in) it was done by Virgil Finlay.
Moving on to other topics, work is almost ever, and I'm all coffeed up. I had to be. Last night I went to bed right after watching the movie (Dark City was longer, but only by eleven minutes, so I watched it anyway), and woke up several times during the night. This morning I was a blear-eyed, stumbling mess, and it took me until early afternoon to actually feel awake. I think I'm coming down with something -- probably a minor cold, but it's enough to make my throat scratchy and probably ruin my mornings for a week or two. I mean that in relative terms because mornings, by definition, ruin themselves. They do for me, anyway.
Unfortunately, I cut off my caffeine consumption once I leave work which means that I'll crash in a couple of hours. I'm getting together with Ellen tonight, and she's pretty used to that by now.
Anyway, by now this has been posted on my Friends page twice, but if you've had a paid livejournal account since before 01.14.05, you're eligible for two weeks free service for putting up with their outage over the weekend. It's a nice gesture. They're only out 96 cents and I was renewing my subscription anyway.
Obviously none of the above is true (although I am an Officer of the British Empire), but I had to find the right combination to get the shirt I wanted.
Current Mood: good
Current Music: Dressy Bessy -- Bubbles
I already know what I'm getting you for your birthday and it's not that expensive.
You're stealing it for me? Oh, Liz, I didn't know you cared so much!
I actually really like that painting:)
I really like the painting too. Of his drawings, the piteous self-portrait I linked to above is one of the best. Looking at his stuff you can see that he had a better understanding of visual composition, shading, etc., than I ever will, and yet he wasn't very good.
Thanks for the links. I would really... REALLY love to own that painting. Really... Um, can I borrow fifty grand?
In exchange for the links I offer a PC mod; something I would do if I only had the time, skill and money. I present to you The Case That Must Not Be Named.
Fifty grand... fifty grand... let me check my wallet. Um, does $38.66 help?
As for that case mod... I would call it wicked awesome if I were in the habit of using that phrase. I'm not though, so I'll have to refer to it as fantastic yet horrible beyond words, and reminiscent of those yawning outer gulfs where blind terrors writhe in madness.
Like I said, wicked awesome.
Can I make the check payable to Vernon?
You can make the CASH payable to whoever you want to...as long as you hand it to me
